Misty
I am sitting here writing about my baby girl Misty
She is a female shitzu who is the mother of the most wonderful sons and my companions
Let me tell you her story
You see it was the year of 1999, I had moved to a new suburb after going through a bad domestic violence situation
Well we moved to this new place, and on this particular day I was doing my normal as in walking my son to school and as I walked back home I saw this little white dog wondering around, I am not sure if she followed me home in the morning or the afternoon when I picked my son up from school.
But she followed me home, so I thought well if she stays with us, we may keep her, so the next morning she was still with us and we kept her.
She was a stray and why no one wanted her I have no idea.
She is the most beautiful dog with a loving nature.
I already had a Maltese male named Sam so they were a good match.
He liked her straight away.
I did put up notices and I checked with the local vet to see if he knew if she was owned by another family, but no one contacted me.
We then named her Misty. Why I don’t remember however I am thinking because she was a mystery that we had found her I called her misty.
A few months went by and she came in to season and soon after we had 4 beautiful male puppies.
She was a wonderful mum to her puppies and she was so affectionate to me.
We relocated one more time until we finally settled where I am now in the year of April 2000.
My misty would keep all the pets in line, including my blue cattle; she would chastise him as she would her boys.
You would hear her out the back on many occasions telling them off in her way as she did.
She was the little mother to all of them. And she would also walk very proud.
It is 2008 here now and she has aged, I don’t really know how old she was when I found her but I asume she wasn’t a youngen at the time.
It was the year 2006 and I had found she went blind in both eyes but she could still get around as she knew her way.
There was one time I had a really big scare with her, you see we had a really hot day here on Wednesday 22nd November 2006 and I went to check on her as she is an old dog and the heat affects them.
Well I couldn’t find her and one of her sons was crying and trying to let me know she disappeared somewhere.
My son came out the backyard trying to help me find her and we couldn’t see her we couldn’t hear her.
I was worried that she may have got out of the yard somehow and she is roaming the area blind and it was hot as.
I went walking the streets, calling for her, I couldn’t find her, I started crying and I guess in a way I was praying to find her, I asked god if he would help me find her, I went to the sink to get a drink of water as I was over heating and red faced, my son suggested to check the front yard again so I then went to go back outside to keep looking for her and I saw the RSPCA pull up across the road, which is dog rescue and I went across the road to ask them did they get a call about a female shitzu and they said yes, I was hoping it was her, so went to the place where the RSPCA got the call and yessss it was my misty and I cried so much that she was safe.
I guess god was watching and helping me.
He too could see I was putting action first and then I asked for a little help.
The person that found her said he found her roaming around in the middle of the road.
I said to the rspca and the person who found her I was so sorry. She is blind and she must of found a hole in the fence.
I took her home and gave her a nice drink.
Then I went checking the boundary fence to see how she got out and I found the tiniest hole so the neighbour and my son fixed up the hole so she couldn’t get back out.
Well now it is the 16th January 2008, and we were getting bad thunder storms, I went out to bring misty in and I that’s when I seen her and the way she was, she must have had a stroke from the morning up until just before lunch as it was after that I had found her not the best.
My first instinct was she had a stroke, I started crying as I knew I was going to loose her.
I rang the vets and after hours service, then I did some research on strokes in dogs and I found all the symptoms she was showing,
I knew what it was as my Sam had a stroke as well and passed away in the same way.
I tried to make her comfortable for the night.
The next day I took her out for the toilet and I had to hold her up so she could go, she would fall over as she had no balance.
I rang the vet to ask about having her put to sleep, and whether or not there is someway it could be done from home, unfortunately there is not and I couldn’t stop crying so I said to the vet I ring back later.
My son suggested I wait for a few days as she may be O.K. He thought she may just need a little extra special care like an aged person.
I waited and yes she recovered without being in pain. My son was right.
I would call her name and she would wag her tail at me in response, which was a sign she knew who I was and that she still had her facilities about her.
She eventually was able to go to the toilet on her own; she could eat and drink without any help from me. I would direct her to where her bowl was and she would eat her food.
She even went walkabouts around the yard, she was a bit left sided but she seemed to like going around the yard for her daily walk so to speak.
Many times I would help her down the stairs when I was outside as she wanted to come with me.
As you can see I didn’t have her put to sleep, I felt she was not ready as yet and when she was I will know.
I did know that she was to pass away at home though; it was like that thought was stuck in my claw so to speak.
I guess gut instinct or vision, I believe that is what god wanted for her and he was telling me this is what will happen.
Yes god speaks to me in many ways, mostly through my mind.
I am hoping I have written this correctly.
Well it is time for me to get off this pc and get some other things done.
Until I sit and write again
Take Care
